Digital forms can record more information beyond the questions that appear on-screen. For example, you’re probably familiar with reviewing the time a form started and ended, or the time it took to complete the form. Mobile devices can also collect all sorts of sensor readings–like movement and noise–that can reveal important clues about the conditions under which the data was collected. And SurveyCTO can be easily used to flag outlying sensor statistics for a whole new level of awareness of data quality.
Join us in our next webinar on January 29, 2020 at 2 PM UTC / 9 AM ET to learn how to use sensor meta-data as a powerful indicator of data quality. Doing so will bolster your ability to automatically flag outliers and augment your data quality processes.
A member of our expert support team will lead a 20-minute presentation and then open the discussion to any of your questions. If you miss the live webinar, you can watch the recording that we’ll post in our video library.
What you’ll learn
In 2018, we released support for recording device sensor meta-data in your forms, either in a continuous stream of values reported by the device, or as convenient sensor statistics automatically saved inside the form data. While the full sensor stream data takes a bit more effort to work with (made a little easier for Stata users using this command), flagging records with sensor statistics is a powerful and simple way to be vigilant about data quality.
In this webinar, you’ll learn how sensor statistics, detectable by device sensors, can help you better understand how your survey interviews were actually conducted in the field, by answering questions like:
- Did an interview take place indoors more than all others?
- Did an interview take place in a noisy or quiet place more than others?
- Did it seem like no conversation was taking place in an interview compared to others?
- Did it seem like the device wasn’t moving around at all compared to other interviews (or moving more than usual)?
We’ll walk you through setting up a sensor-based quality check, and consider some records flagged in the review workflow. We’ll also consider individual values relative to the distribution of those values, so you get some idea of why those values are outliers. You’ll receive step-by-step guidance on how to do the following:
- Include sensor statistics in your forms with the online form designer and this accompanying sample form.
- Set up an automatic quality check to flag your sensor statistic fields for outliers.
- Use the automated quality check as a criterion for flagging submissions for human review in the review and corrections workflow.
- Scrutinize your form submissions as data arrives in your server console.
With these skills, you’ll be able to better harness the cutting edge of an already mature set of quality control-related field types that can be included in a SurveyCTO form design, including text audits, audio audits, and speed violations.
